Pittsfield's 30th egg festival fosters renewing acquaintances
Monday, July 15, 2002
PITTSFIELD — Central Maine Egg Festival Chairman Rob Speed said Friday that much of the town is gearing up for this month's 30th annual event. "We're starting to get excited," he said.

The theme for this year's activities is "30 Years of Eggcellent Eggventures."

Originally founded to celebrate the brown egg industry, the weeklong festival has become a time for the community to come together and old acquaintances to be renewed. Many local families schedule family reunions around the egg festival schedule.

"Each year an amazing number of people look forward to either attending or participating in this fun tradition," Town Manager Kathryn Ruth said. "The egg festival is a very important event in our community and provides an opportunity for families and friends to see each other and share memories at homecomings and family get-togethers."

Ruth said the event also provides an opportunity for Pittsfield to welcome thousands of visitors to the community. She offered thanks to the festival committee and the other civic groups in Pittsfield "that have helped make the egg festival such a great family event."
